Commander Guide: Roles Before Rarity

Legendary names are exciting, but a dependable roster begins with coverage: someone to hold pressure, someone to create an opening, and someone who turns that opening into an objective.

Start with the mission

Before choosing a commander, ask what the operation requires. Is the problem survival, mobility, area control, structure damage, information, or recovery? A high-rarity character used outside their job can contribute less than a focused option supporting the objective.

Use a three-role check

  1. Anchor: absorbs pressure or stabilizes contested ground.
  2. Enabler: reveals, controls, buffs, disrupts, or creates access.
  3. Finisher: converts the opening into destroyed forces, captured territory, or completed objectives.

The public roster previews illustrate those identities. Iron Warlord represents frontline durability and area pressure. Void Spectre represents stealth and intelligence. Nexus Breaker represents rally-driven disruption and aggression. Exact live abilities should always be checked in the current game build.

Avoid duplicate jobs

Two commanders can both be powerful while competing for the same timing, space, or support. Look for combinations whose strengths overlap only where redundancy is valuable. If every choice needs protection, no one is providing it.

Invest with a purpose

Upgrade the commanders that unlock a repeatable plan rather than spreading resources evenly across every rarity. Reassess after balance changes, new modes, or a change in alliance role. A roster is a strategic tool, not a permanent ranking.

Practical rule: build one reliable team first, then add specialist answers. Breadth becomes valuable after the core lineup can clear its intended content consistently.
